Bushfire burns pole in rugged terrain, 736 without power

2.15pm: A HELICOPTER was used to find the damage to the power network in between Kunawarara and Clairview this morning.

Ergon Energy Corporate Communications Manager Bob Pleash said Ergon was notified of a bushfire in the area where 736 customers lost power about 10.30am today.

He said the chopper found the pole, which was burnt down by the bushfire in the Raspberry Creek area, in rugged terrain.

"Several crews are on the ground but are having access issues due to the fire and burnt vegetation," Mr Pleash said.

Ergon has called in heavy machinery to clear a path to the damaged power pole.

"At this stage, due to the access issues, it could be later tonight before restoration occurs," Mr Pleash said.

"To complicate things further, it is in fairly rugged terrain."

 

1.40pm: ERGON Energy crews have found a pole damaged and on the ground near Kunawarara which has led to over 700 customers without power today.

Ergon Energy Corporate Communications Manager Bob Pleash said 736 customers lost power about 10.30am this morning between Kunawarara and Clairview.

He said crews were working to repair the damage and restore power to customers as soon as possible.

Mr Pleash said he hoped to a restoration time frame to advise customers shortly.

It is unknown what caused the damage to the pole at this point in time.

1.15pm: OVER 700 Ergon Energy customers in the Marlborough, St Lawrence area, are without power.

According to the Ergon Energy power outage website, the outage impacts customers in Clairview, Milman, Ogmore, Kalarka, Yaamba, Glen Geddes, Kunawarara, Marlborough, St Lawrence, Stanage, Wumalgi and Princhester.
