Overhead powerlines inhibit fire fighting effort at Stanwell

A LARGE grass fire has been started at the Stanwell Power Station.

Fire crews responded to the scene about 8.30am.

A QFRS spokesperson said crews had to wait for overhead power lines at the rail loop to be turned off before they could respond to the fire to minimize safety risks.

The windy conditions also led them to dispatch extra crews as a precaution.

It is believed the fire is 400-500 metres long by 10 metres wide and is now smouldering.

It is also believed it is contained by a dirt track and a railway line.
