Palmer not backing Lambie's Muslim comments

CLIVE Palmer has distanced his party from incendiary statements on the burqa and sharia law by PUP senator Jacqui Lambie.

Senator Lambie has refused to back away from her comments that the burqa should be banned and Muslims adhering to sharia should "get out" of the country.

On Sunday, she went further, claiming Islamic law "involves terrorism" and the burqa is a "national security" risk.
"When it comes to sharia law, to me, it obviously involves terrorism," she said.

Mr Palmer told Fairfax Media Senator's Lambie's views were not PUP policy.

"Party policy is determined by a meeting of the members and is announced by the leader," he said.

Senator Lambie has gone on the offensive after she published an image of a woman wearing a burqa carrying a gun, alongside a call to have them banned.

It later became apparent the woman pictured in the image was an Afghani police officer who had fought against the Taliban.

In a report, the photographer of the original image attacked Senator Lambie and right-wing groups in the UK for "desecrating" the image.

Senator Lambie hit back on her Facebook page.
