Palmer still ahead, but count to continue next week

CLIVE Palmer's lead over the LNP's Ted O'Brien in the recount for Fairfax slipped two votes to 64 yesterday with 35 of the division's 46 polling places finalised.

The recount will continue next week with 10 polling places still to be resolved because the Fairfax AEC Division Office did not receive any pre-poll votes itself.

Yesterday, Mountain Creek, Nambour and the Coolum Beach pre-poll voting centres were the latest polling places recounted.

The 35 polling places recounted equates to 72% of all ballot papers that will be recounted.

About 15,500 absent, pre-poll, postal and provisional votes remain to be dealt with and recounted.

As of Wednesday night, the Australian Electoral Office Queensland had determined about 70% (about 32,000) of the almost 44,000 challenged ballot papers referred to it.

The count continues 8.30am to 6.30pm daily in Brisbane with PUP and LNP scrutineers in attendance to provide decisions on remaining challenged votes.

That process will continue tomorrow.
