Patient assaults Rocky paramedic

A PARAMEDIC was assaulted by a patient in the back of an ambulance on its way to the Rockhampton Hospital on Monday night.

Around 7pm ambulance services were called to Port Curtis Rd to attend to a 31-year-old male.

Whilst being transported to the hospital, the man assaulted the paramedic before fleeing the vehicle.

Police located him at a later time and he was taken into custody.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Ambulance Service said the paramedic proceeded to the hospital following the assault and was assessed by a doctor for minor facial injuries.

The man was yesterday charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and is expected to appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on January 30.
