Peace group slams region militarisation ahead of Talisman
PEACE Convergence has targeted Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry for advocating the militarisation of the region.
The organisation is a coalition of anti-war groups.
Member of Peace Convergence, Graeme Dunstan said tax payers were paying for private contractors to get rich.
"The Peace Convergence asks what will aiding and abetting militarism bring to the community? Is the temporary job creation as virtuous as it sounds?
"We know from the Okinawans that along with greater military presence comes more violent crime and more subtly, an increasing military presence militarises local culture."
Ms Landry is one of many leaders in the region pushing for heavier military involvement to boost the local economy. The region has a strong military presence with Shoalwater Bay and the Western St Army Barracks.
