Petition to stop neo-Nazi concert

A PETITION to stop the controversial neo-Nazi Hammered Music Festival from being held in Brisbane in April has been launched by Member for Burnett Rob Messenger.

Mr Messenger said he had been contacted by a number of members of the public to stop the festival, which is run by the Southern Cross Hammershins, the Australian branch of an international white supremacist group whose members have been convicted of race-based murder and assault.

The petition notes that all levels of government have not acted to publicly condemn or ban the race hate gathering.

"The reality is Bligh and Newman can stop this music festival right now by saying that they will use every existing state law to prevent this concert. They have both failed to do that," Mr Messenger said.

"If the laws aren't up to the task to stop the neo-Nazi gatherings, then we've got to change the laws."

Mr Messenger said there had to be a reason why the group wanted to hold the event in Queensland for the second year running.

The Hammered Music Festival will be held in a secret location and feature race hate music from international and local bands.
