Petrie fires on fairways to take the title

GOLF: Trudi Petrie has won the Queensland Women's Country Championships played at the Rockhampton and Yeppoon golf courses this week.

About 350 amateur golfers from more than 60 clubs across the state (excluding the Brisbane district) took part in the three-day championships, the largest participation event run by Golf Queensland.

Petrie, from 1770 Golf Club, fired two rounds of 75 to finish five shots clear of second-placed Olivia Dolan from Noosa, with Mackay's Sheree Hasson in third.

Liezel Parry from the Gold Coast won Division 2, with Yeppoon's Betty Dann second and Noosa Springs player Dianne Tonge third.

Hasson and Burleigh's Margrethe Harbo teamed up to win the Division 1 foursomes championship on the opening day's play.

Gladstone's Jo-Anne Petersen won the Division 3 stableford, with Yeppoon golfers Elaine Stewart and Delroi Bolger second and third respectively.

Yeppoon's Elizabeth Moss scored a 10-shot victory in the Division 4 stableford from Sarina's Lyn Smyth and Prosperine's Faye Elder.

Golf Queensland's golf operations manager Chris Evans said the championships were again a huge success, with players most complimentary about the two host courses and the overall running of the event.
