Pettitt to return to Diamonds after three-year absence

NETBALL: Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander says the experience of veteran Susan Pettitt will be vital for next year's Quad Series in South Africa and England.

Pettitt, who has won 54 caps for Australia, was named in a squad of 12 for the series in January and February, which features the two host nations plus Australia and New Zealand.

Shooter Pettitt returns to the Diamonds squad for the first time in three years and Alexander said she deserved her recall.

"It will be a positive outcome for our team to have Susan's level of experience from the ANZ Championship court and previous international outings and her already well-established combinations with many of the team members," she said.

Sharni Layton will captain the team in the absence of Laura Geitz, who is taking time out to have a baby.

Uncapped players Courtney Bruce and Caitlyn Nevins have also been called up, while shooter Caitlin Thwaites and mid-courter Kim Ravaillion have been handed vice-captaincy roles.

Australia won the Quad Series contested by the same four nations earlier this year in Australia and New Zealand.

The Quad Series starts in Durban on January 28.

It moves to England in early February, with matches scheduled in Liverpool and London.
