PhD is a family affair
DANYA Hodgetts says completing a PhD is a lot like being a parent - it requires perseverance and resisting fatigue.
The Rockhampton mother-of-three is definitely an authority on both topics.
In the past five years she has given birth to three children and completed her PhD through CQUniversity on sporting development legacies left by major sports events.
Yesterday Dayna went directly from a swimming lesson for her three-year-old daughter, Layne, to CQUniversity's campus to pick up her gown for her graduation tomorrow.
With her eight-month-old twins Jake and Jordan in tow - wearing custom-made "thesis baby 1 of 2" and "thesis baby 2 of 2" shirts - Danya explained the intricacies of completing a philosophy doctorate.
"I'm not saying it's easy, it's just complimentary to parenting skills," she said.
Danya is one of 16 PhD students graduating from CQUniversity this year, with their doctorates ranging from research on natural sweetener to documentary films.
CQUniversity communications editor Marc Barnbaum said it was a record number of PhD graduates for the university.
A total of 164 students will celebrate their graduation at the ceremony today at 2pm.
