Players gain high-level skills

NETBALL: Biloelajuniors have continued their success with four of their players returning from the Capricorn Regional Academy recently held in Rockhampton.

Caitlin Boothby, Brylea Griffiths, Zali Middleton and Zali Eckle attended the academy to improve their skill levels.

Middleton said the experience of training at a higher level had helped her netball game.

"We did these new drills and skills at a high elite competitive level and allowed us to vary our game and improve on it,” she said.

"It would be great to be a Firebird (Queensland team) or amazing to play for the Diamonds (Australian team).”

President of Biloela Netball Shari Hancox said it was a great learning experience for the four players.

"There was about 20 athletes who attended the coaching academy and it is designed to help with talent identification and training with high-level coaches,” Hancox said. "This is a pathway for regional players to get into the the Central Queensland netball team, the Capricorn Claws.”

Hancox said the players would also bring back to the club and the coaches what they had learnt and pass on that knowledge.

Boothby said the academy gave them a chance to branch out and learn new skills and play at a faster pace.

Griffiths enjoyed the experience because it gave her the opportunity make new friends and improve on her game.

"I hope I went well at the trials and I feel like I am in with a good chance for the Capricorn Claws,” she said.
