GALLERY: Bouldercombe playgroup receives much needed grant

ON NOVEMBER 25, $5000 worth of equipment was unveiled at the Bouldercombe Playgroup from a grant awarded from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

A celebratory morning tea was held by the group.

Our playgroup was established in 1981 and resources for the group have only ever been purchased by members' own fundraising efforts.

We are a small rural group with only six families with 10 children attending. Our cupboards have been fairly bare of late with fundraising efforts going to pay expenses for the hall costs for the playgroup and only a small amount going towards resources.

This is a wonderful boost to the resources with item purchased for babies up to four-year-olds the cupboards are now brimming with items such as; bikes, scooters, easels, water trough, art/craft, paint, treading, balls and much more.

"Being awarded this grant has showed our members that they are valued and appreciated and that even though we are just a small rural group we are still important" by Amy Hiley (Treasurer)

"We would love to expand our small group and encourage some more families to come and enjoy our new cupboards bounties" from Lillian Abel (Parent Member)

"Playgroup has been so rewarding for my Grandson Alexander and the friendships both he and I have formed have enriched our lives for the better so I would encourage anyone thinking about going to a Playgroup to go for it" from Joady Martin (Parent Member)

Playgroup is a fabulous opportunity for children to have fun while learning to socialise in a non-structured environment with other children with the emphasis on free play. All areas of development can be enhanced through playgroup with a variety of activities offered weekly.

Children are not the only members who benefit from playgroup; parents are able to seek a support network, form friendships and feel supported and socialise with other local members of our community.

Our group meets at the Bouldercombe Recreation Complex every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesday of the month and we are affiliated with Playgroup Association of Queensland.

Cost is $3 per visit to cover the hire of the hall and an annual yearly fee of $40 per family to Playgroup Association of Queensland for insurance purposes, which is payable after a settling in period. Mums and dads and extended families are always welcomed and parents are encouraged to supply a morning tea for their child/children.

Membership is not restricted to Bouldercombe residents with members invited to join from the wider community and surrounding areas. Interested members can free call 1800171882 or visit and search for the Bouldercombe group.
