Plea before murder trial starts

A WOMAN accused of murdering a man in Mt Morgan pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Supreme Court at Rockhampton this morning.

A murder trial was due to begin today for Frances Margaret Oram in front of Justice Duncan McMeekin and involving more than 30 witnesses.

She pleaded not guilty to murdering Mt Morgan man Colin Dent on or about September 22, 2009.

But after a jury was impaneled, Oram’s defence lawyer Stephen Kissick offered a guilty plea to manslaughter, which was accepted by Crown Prosecutor Brendan Campbell.

Oram pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody by Justice McMeekin for sentence at 10am tomorrow.
