Attempt to remove plover eggs from Bowl before carols

CAROLS will be sung on Saturday at the Music Bowl, but it is yet to be seen whether the community will be avoiding territorial plovers at the site.

Wildlife Rockhampton will be at the Music Bowl this morning to attempt to remove the plover eggs, which will in turn stop the adult birds from being aggressive to humans.

The group's Svetlana Mitin said with incubators and facilities already set up, the eggs should hatch fine and baby plovers are self-sufficient.

"We try everything not to remove them, but I think here the decision was made," Svetlana said. "It's probably not a good place for the eggs to be anyway, they may get squashed."

Rockhampton Regional Council said a permit was gained to remove the eggs, which are in the middle of the amphitheatre.
