Live wires endanger trapped driver

A 25-YEAR-OLD Rockhampton woman was trapped in her vehicle on Farnborough Road for more than half an hour yesterday after hitting a concrete light pole, which then fell onto her car.

The crash happened about 3pm. Because of the fallen pole and live wires, Fire and Rescue crews had to free the woman, who was taken to Yeppoon Hospital.

Acting Senior Sergeant Joe Aboud said her injuries were not considered life threatening, but further details were unavailable yesterday.

“There are no indications as to cause of the accident, but police investigations are continuing,” Senior Sergeant Aboud said.

Traffic was diverted through Pacific Heights for almost two hours as the southbound lane was closed while emergency services crews worked to free the woman from her vehicle and then clear the road.

“We ask all drivers, particularly in wet weather, to take special care,” Senior Sergeant Aboud said.
