Men charged after police chase in Bongaree

Following a chase in Bongaree yesterday afternoon police have charged two men after cash was stolen during the burglary of a residence.

A Welsby Parade unit was allegedly broken into sometime before 12.45pm with a large sum of cash, alcohol, and personal items stolen.

An officer chased a man on foot along the banks of Creel Bend Creek before he attempted to obstruct the officer by entering the water. He was arrested at the scene.

Police divers located a bag containing cash in the creek this morning.

A 35-year old Caboolture man has been charged with one count of burglary and committing an indictable offence, theft of an article, obstruct police, possessing property suspected of being used in the commission of a drug offence and possessing dangerous drugs.

A 25-year old Kingaroy man has been charged with one count of burglary and committing an indictable offence.

They are both due to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court today.

A DRAMATIC police chase unfolded in the Bribie Island suburb of Bongaree on Tuesday afternoon, with one man allegedly jumping into the water to evade officers.

At least two men were arrested, however police are yet to release full details from the scene.

A police media spokesman said officers were called to Welsby Parade following reports of a resident disturbing someone allegedly breaking into their home about 12.40pm.

The spokesman said an amount of items and cash were allegedly stolen from the property.

One man was seen in handcuffs inside a Welsby Parade motel, while the other was arrested on the sand near Quota Park.

A witness, who did not want to be identified, said the man in the water was yelling at police while attempting to swim away.

"He was back and forth - when he saw the officer he just swam over the side and decamped on foot," the witness said.

"I was on my way home and I heard all this yelling."

The men are understood to have been staying overnight at the motel.

At least four police cars including the dog squad were on scene while the drama unfolded.
