Police searching for man who attacked Woolworths staff
UPDATE 6PM: POLICE are still trying to locate a man, believed to be in his 30s, who damaged a cash register and assaulted a staff member at Woolworths, North Side Plaza this morning.At 10.20am the man walked up to one of the store's self-service cash registers and started to scan his groceries, a police Media spokesman confirmed yesterday. "He's punched the screen of the machine causing damage and then picked up the groceries and has attempted to exit," the spokesman said. "A staff member has tried to stop him and he's shoved her out of the way." Police were called to the scene shortly after the incident and inspected the centre's CCTV footage yesterday to try and identify the man. It is likely he will be charged with wilful damage and common assault. Authorities confirmed the female staff member who was pushed by the man did not sustain any serious injury as a result of the assault.
UPDATE 1.30PM: POLICE have possession of CCTV footage showing customer rage incident at North Side Plaza. Police confirm willful damage offence after attack on cash register.
UPDATE 11.30AM: POLICE are still on scene at North Side Plaza and are waiting for CCTV footage of the alleged incident.
10.30am: POLICE are on their way to North Side Plaza after reports of a male customer abusing Woolworths staff.
It's believed the man has damaged a cash register and is yelling profanities at staff members.
