Police search surrounding area of alleged murder scene

UPDATE, 2PM: Police and SES volunteers are searching the surrounding area of an alleged murder scene after a 23-year-old man was found stabbed to death in Carole Park.

Police were called to the scene about 3am and found the victim clinging to life, behind a vehicle in a vacant lot in Cobalt St.

Officers administered CPR but the man died at the scene.

It is understood that a woman - believed to be known to the victim - told police she'd seen the offenders flee the scene.

Detective Inspector Lew Strohfeldt said the victim suffered a number of stab wounds to his torso and described the crime as "brutal".

He said investigations into the alleged murder were still being conducted and involved police working with SES crews to search the area for evidence.

Det Insp Strohfeldt said the woman was assisting police with their enquiries and was not considered a suspect.

He said it was believed at least three people were in the vehicle when the victim was stabbed.

"We're unsure how many other people were present at the scene," he said.

Det Insp Strohfeldt said it was believed another car was at the scene when this tragedy took place.

 

6AM: Police are appealing for public assistance as a homicide investigation continues into the death of a 23-year-old man in Cobalt Street at Carole Park this morning.

At 3am, officers attended an address in Cobalt Street where they found a man with multiple stab wounds. Police administered CPR however the man was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Detective Inspector Lew Strohfeldt said officers are keen to talk to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area between 10pm and 6am.

"We're also urging businesses in the vicinity to contact Crime Stoppers if they have any CCTV footage," Detective Inspector Strohfeldt said.

"We currently have 30 detectives doorknocking the area, and SES personnel are conducting a ground search for a weapon or any other items which may be relevant to the investigation."

Investigations are continuing.
