UPDATE October 26, 7.20AM: ONE OF Rockhampton's busiest intersections was closed for more than 12 hours yesterday after a B double carrying bananas crashed into Kershaw Gardens in the early hours of the morning.

Preliminary police investigations show that about 4.20am, the truck and a hatchback collided on the Bruce Hwy at the intersection of Alexandra St and Moores Creek Rd.

The truck rolled, coming to rest on its side.

Its driver, a 60-year-old man, suffered serious injuries.

He was trapped in the cabin and was treated on the scene by a doctor before being freed from the wreckage.

He was taken to the Rockhampton Base Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The 36-year-old male driver of the hatchback suffered minor injuries. He is in a stable condition.

Moores Creek Rd was closed and traffic was diverted along Yaamba Rd and Musgrave St as authorities spent most of the day clearing debris from the scene.

The scene was re-opened to traffic at 6.25pm.

The accident happened within metres of underground gas lines, making it a precarious clean-up operation for authorities.

Large amounts of diesel and oil were spilled and had to be cleared from the roadway.

The truck also had to be unloaded before it could be righted by a crane and removed.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.

UPDATE 6.25PM: Moores Creek Rd has re-opened to traffic.

UPDATE 4.05PM: Moores Creek Rd remains closed as work continues to clear debris from the early-morning collision.

Police are hopeful the scene will be cleared within the hour.

UPDATE 1.10PM: the truck involved in the accident has now been righted but it is expected it will still be several hours before the scene is cleared.

The Bruce Hwy (Moores Creek Rd) remains closed to traffic. Diversions via Yaamba Rd and Musgrave St are in place.

Police remain at the scene of a serious traffic accident that happened early this morning at Park Avenue.

Preliminary investigations indicate that about 4.20am, a truck and hatchback collided at the intersection of Alexandra St and Moores Creek Rd, causing the truck to roll.
