Police targeting school holiday youth crime

Valerie Horton

WITH school holidays underway, Acting Inspector Ben Carroll of the Rockhampton City Patrol said police were keeping a close eye on the region's youth.

Acting Insp Carroll said police would have a heavy presence at major shopping centre Stockland Rockhampton.

"We are aware of ongoing issues with juveniles at Stockland Rockhampton in the past four weeks and we are working with Stockland Rockhampton centre management to address these issues," Acting Insp Carroll said.

"We have had numerous calls over the weekend and on Thursday night about these issues.

"We have a dedicated patrol at the shopping centres on Thursday nights and have done so for some time."

Acting Insp Carroll said police would also be on the lookout for suspicious behaviour around schools over the holidays.

"We had a number of schools broken into over the weekend," he said.

"We are targeting youth in our patrols."
