Police threatened with iron bar, mattock in serious assault

A MAN who allegedly terrorised police armed first with a mattock and iron bar, then with a block of concrete in Cherbourg is now facing a swag of charges including serious assault.

Police arrived at a man's house on Bond St in Cherbourg on Sunday afternoon following calls about a disturbance.

When they turned up, police believe the man fled, only to return with the mattock and iron bar as they were taking a woman from the house.

He allegedly threw the mattock at the police car then chased the police with an iron bar as they drove away.

He is also said to have threatened police with a large concrete block he found during the chase.

Police report that he threw a rock, "narrowly missing a police officer" as they attempted to calm the situation.

A 44-year-old Cherbourg man has been charged with three counts of serious assault police whilst armed, one count each of obstruct police, wilful damage of police property, going armed so as to cause fear, threatening violence, possession of dangerous drugs and breach of domestic violence order.

He is due to appear in the Kingaroy Magistrates Court today.
