Policeman 'punched' on Aust Day

A POLICE sergeant was allegedly punched in the head while attending a disturbance at Tannum Sands on Australia Day.

About 4.55pm police were called to a residence on Silverton Drive.

While officers were talking to an 18-year-old man he allegedly began swinging punches, hitting the sergeant on the chin.

The man was restrained and arrested and later charged with one count each of serious assault, public nuisance, wilful damage and obstruct police.

He is due to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on February 11.
