A two-week expressions of interest campaign to find buyers for the remaining stores and leases saw more than 55 EOIs.

Earlier, The Bulletin asked readers, at a readers request, what they would like to see in place of Sam's Warehouse.

Here are some of those responses:

  • Helen Short - Yes I would also say ALDI ,But Costco would be ok too , If Mackay can have Aldi , I reckon we can have one here.......
  • Jilly Bean -well if its a store like Sams Warehouse ( not a grocery store ) then King Kong Sales , its a cheap store with 1/2 the store with cheap stuff like Sams and the other 1/2 of the store is home decor items like Define shop but about 1/4 of the price
  • Jessie Rhianna Woodward - Aldi!!
  • Jean Rambert - Aldi or Costco, we used to be a member in Melbourne, good savings & provide more competition.
  • Zoe Hales - IKEA
  • Natalya Jade Hatchman - iKEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or aldi, aldi is good
  • Linda Hovey - Aldi!!!!!
  • Amy James - Aldi
  • Tamara Stewart - How about another youth centre or homeless shelter.. I recently read that another homeless shelter had been closed in rockhalmpton.. Im sure people would volunteer to help out, if not there are alot of people on government benefits that could spare even a few hours a week.
