Pollies officially open $170m hwy project
THE landmark Yeppen Floodplain project was officially commissioned yesterday, substantially improving the Bruce Hwy's ability to remain open during major floods.
The $170 million project, on the outskirts of Rockhampton, includes the longest bridge on the Bruce Hwy.
The stage 2 project will allow freight and traffic to flow through Rockhampton during floods, to keep the local and state economy moving.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss and regional federal and state MPs conducted the opening.
The project was jointly funded, with the Australian Government providing $136 million and the Queensland Government providing $34 million to the project.
