Pool of blood leads to body

A POOL of blood at the bottom of the stairs was a gruesome sign that a tragedy had occurred in a quiet Mount Morgan street.

The high-set Bedsor Street home became a crime scene yesterday morning after the body of a 60-year-old man was found by his carer about 5.15am.

Regional Crime Co-ordinator Detective Inspector Jon Wacker said police were treating the man's death as suspicious but would not reveal any information about evidence at the scene or any apparent cause of death.

Inspector Wacker said the homicide squad had been briefed.

He said they were awaiting the result of this morning's post mortem examination to determine the next stage of the investigation.

Inspector Wacker said the man's 50-year-old female carer came to the house to find his lifeless body on the floor of the lounge room near the front door.

The man was reportedly frail and required a walking frame.

A major incident room was set up at the Mount Morgan Police Station to continue the investigations.

The man's carer was interviewed by police and door knocks in the area were being conducted.

Anyone with information that may assist police should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
