Port Macquarie ready to rock
ABOUT 30,000 people will rock Port Macquarie with their big hair, bobby socks and classic cars for the Wintersun Festival from June 3 to 13.
It’s not too late to plan a short stay in the region and be part of this huge celebration of the lifestyle of the 40s, 50s and 60s.
It features over 80 live bands and entertainers, swing balls and dance competitions, vintage fashion parades, classic cars and an Elvis competition. There are free events or ticketed shows for $20.
Showstopper events include the exciting Pretty Things Peep Show out of New York, Australia’s music legend Col Joye, 45 years in showbiz with Normie Rowe, Jerry Shilling talking of his time with Elvis Presley, The Delltones, and international rockabilly acts Marti Brom and John Lewis.
The exciting line-up will be perfect for all ages, young and old, families and couples. Indoor and outdoor venues include The Glasshouse Entertainment Centre, Port Panthers, a local sports stadium, school and community clubs, plus four days of free entertainment in Westport Park.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Events NSW worked in partnership to secure the Wintersun Festival from the Gold Coast in QLD where it was held for 15 years.
“Port Macquarie is the perfect destination to host Wintersun as it has been a much-loved family holiday destination since the 1950s.
"We have a warm winter climate, beautiful beaches and waterways, accommodation for all budgets and first-class venues and parks.” said Linda Hall, Tourism and Events Manager, Port Macquarie Tourism.
