Pregnant woman dies in crash
A ROCKHAMPTON girl, aged 16, died after a horrific three-vehicle accident on the Bruce Hwy yesterday at 6am.
She was in the front passenger seat of a sedan driving south near Colosseum, 25km south of Miriam Vale, when the car collided head-on with a ute travelling north.
A third vehicle then crashed into the rear of the utility.
An 18-year-old pregnant woman from the Sunshine Coast was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries, where she later died.
She was in the back seat of the sedan.
The driver of the sedan was a 19-year-old Rockhampton man who received serious injuries.
A 21-year-old Sunshine Coast man, also in the car, had to be airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital after suffering critical injuries.
Police believe the driver of the utility sustained leg and chest injuries.
They said he was taken to Gladstone Hospital for treatment.
A 57-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman from Townsville were in the third car.
They were taken to Gladstone Hospital for a medical check-over.
The highway, which was strewn with debris and personal items from the vehicles, was closed for several hours after the crash and did not fully re-open until 2.20pm.
Police said their initial investigations showed the sedan veered over the white lines and onto the other side of the highway, causing them to collide with the first ute.
