Man dies in ute rollover

A MAN has died after a ute rolled west of Brisbane this evening.

Queensland Ambulance Service says it was called to Condamine Drive in Fernvale about 6:25pm, where a group of people were allegedly joy riding when a ute rolled over.

One man was declared dead at the scene.

Five other patients are being treated by paramedics, with one being transported to Ipswich Hospital with a hand injury.

Earlier, Queensland ambulance services tweeted that lengthy delays were expected, urging people to avoid the area.

Elsewhere, roads across the southeast were packed earlier today as families in the southeast made the most of the sunshine for the Australia Day long-weekend.

Major highways north of Brisbane experienced delays, with traffic being particularly slow between Bald Hills and Beerburrum on the Bruce Highway.

South of Brisbane, the M1 was heavy between Worongary and Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, but overall the RACQ reported the highway heading north was less busy.

Experts are warning drivers to take extra care and allow more travel time as Queenslanders get out and about.

If you’re planning a road trip this long weekend, don’t forget to have plenty of water on-board.
