Professor of gender, peace and militarism visits Rocky

THE international president of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom from Kyoto will speak in Rockhampton as part of the Peace Convergence during Exercise Talisman Sabre.

Professor Kozue Akibayashi lectures in gender, peace and militarism at Doshisha University and will be speaking at the Fitzroy Room in the Rockhampton Regional Library at 5pm on Saturday.

As part of the event Australian filmmaker David Bradbury will also premiere his latest documentary, War on Trial.

This new movie tells the story of the trial of Graeme Dunstan, his relationship with the late Bryan Law, and how together they disabled an Australian military helicopter during the 2011 Talisman Sabre exercise.

The film questions the Australian-US military alliance and why we go to war.

Mr Bradbury has won many awards, including five Australian Film Industry prizes and two Oscar nominations.

The movie will screen from 7pm, also in the Fitzroy Room at the Rockhampton Regional Library.

Entry to both events is by donation; inquiries 0458 298 297; bookings 4914 0087.

Peace Convergence activities continue on Sunday with the Yeppoon Peace Parade to weave its way through the township, ending in a free concert on the beachfront from 2pm.

Anyone wanting to take part in the parade is asked to assemble at the old railway station in James St, Yeppoon, from 12.30pm.
