Princess Anne endorses Queensland beef

PRINCESS Anne has given Queensland beef her seal of approval as she opened the an international agriculture conference in Brisbane this week.

The Queen's daughter opened the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth's event on Tuesday.

She spoke highly of Queensland's reputation within global agriculture.

"Its history as a producer and exporter, particularly of beef, in Australia and a world leader in livestock production, management and technologies is widely renowned".

"It is also renowned for exhibiting that extraordinary strength and resilience in the wake of certainly things like this drought but in previous years, extraordinary devastation caused by flooding."

Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said Central Queensland ought to be thrilled with the praise.

"The most significant part of Australia's beef industry is here in Central Queensland, which is why Rockhampton is seen as the nation's Beef Capital.

"Everyone who plays a role in contributing to the reputation of Capricornia's beef industry should be rightly proud of the royal endorsement."

The princess also paid tribute to farmers still battling the drought currently engulfing more than 70% of the state.
