He's accused of raping his cell mate while watching porn

A CAPRICORNIA Correctional Centre inmate is on trial in the Rockhampton District Court for allegedly raping his cell mate back in 2014.

The man is charged with four counts of rape that are alleged to have occurred in the Capricornia Correctional Centre over a period of two weeks when the man and another man shared a cell at the Etna Creek facility.

An audio recording of the victim's interview with police from March 2014 was played to the court yesterday where it was revealed the victim had been made to perform oral sex on the man four times in the two week period they shared a cell.

The court heard the victim had been moved around a number of units in the prison and was concerned for his safety after getting into a bit of trouble with other prisoners in other units.

"I tried to keep out of trouble and keep my head down, just be that guy who sits in the corner reading my book," the victim said.

"But that's the worst thing about jail, they want you to stop being the tough guy but they put you in a place where only tough guys are respected.

"I was told that if I did what they asked of me I'd be safe in jail," the victim said.

The court heard the man had a USB with pornography on it and was playing the clips while the victim performed oral sex on him.

"The first time it happened he was watching the USB and he'd told me everything he'd done for me in the last week," he said.

"I said no every time but he said I would stop being looked after so I did it."

The trial has been adjourned until Monday.
