Police view prisoner's autopsy

THE results from an autopsy of a prisoner allegedly bashed to death at the Capricornia Correctional Centre were being viewed by detectives yesterday.

Rockhampton police spent most of the day interviewing inmates and correctional centre staff about the incident.

Late yesterday police were yet to charge a person as a result of the death.

The 30-year-old Gladstone man died early Wednesday morning after a fight with another prisoner at the jail.

It’s believed he suffered severe head injuries.

He died at the prison’s medical centre around 9am before an ambulance could take him to Rockhampton Hospital.

The deceased man had only arrived at the correctional centre last month after being sent to jail for six months on a breaking-and-entering charge.

The man’s name was not released by police yesterday.
