Privacy reasons prevent comment on tattoo studio rejection
A SPOKESMAN for the Office of Fair Trading said the department could not comment on specific cases such as Gallery Ink's for privacy reasons.
The spokesman said the laws were in effect to prevent the involvement of criminal motorcycle organisations in the tattoo industry.
He said if an application was refused by the department the reason was generally that the applicant was not considered a fit and proper person to hold a licence and/or it was not in the public interest.
"As of this morning we have 238 applications for tattoo parlour licenses, of these 11 have been granted, one has been refused and the rest are pending."
