Profiles are a bit fishy in the world of online dating

I AM a big fan of technology.

As a single Supermum I have come to appreciate it for all that it brings…. including bringing me back into the dating scene from the comfort of my own home.

At my age I can't think of anything worse than heading to a pub or a club to meet people.

I guess that is because the type of people I want to meet aren't hanging around at pubs or clubs.

So what does a 40-something single woman do to find an eligible bachelor in these times?

We go online shopping.

I've done my Woollies shopping online, browsed a few online stores and spent hours on eBay, so why not go date shopping the same way?

There is one note of caution though.

Like doing anything online… all is not always what it seems.

You know what it is like.

You see that cute little outfit on eBay, are over the moon when you win the auction, send off the payment but then when your little parcel arrives in the mail, it is nothing like the picture or the description.

And so it will be with dating sites like RSVP.

After checking out a few potentials I realised one thing; there must be some "guys guide to building a profile" on RSVP that us girls are not privy to.

If there is, it must read something like this:

First, when selecting photographs to put on your profile there must be a picture of you holding a fish. Big fish or small fish, it doesn't matter.

Second, you should put in there somewhere you like barbecues, the outdoors, camping and adventure.

Your version of the outdoors might just be being in the backyard to access your barbecue, but it is still the outdoors, isn't it?

Third, make sure not to spell everything correctly, after all, you don't want them thinking you are perfect.

And lastly, mention gym as one of your favourite activities. You don't have to go to the gym, or even have a current membership, as long as you can name drop a gym or two.

So the thing us single girls have to do now is work out the real fisherman from the fakers… or at least work out which ones would be a decent catch.
