Man accused of running down dog skips court

UPDATE: PROTESTERS outside Mackay Court House packed up and left as a man due to face animal cruelty charges failed to show up for court.

Lyle Arthur Marriage, 55, from South Mackay was listed to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday, charged with animal cruelty.

Police allege he deliberately ran over a dog with a car on August 13.

On Tuesday afternoon a warrant was issued for his arrest, after he didn't appear in court for his case to be mentioned.

INITIAL: A SMALL group of protesters have converged outside Mackay Court House to face a man accused of deliberately running over a dog with his car.

Lyle Arthur Marriage, a 55-year-old South Mackay man, is due to face Mackay Magistrates Court this morning, charged with animal cruelty over an alleged incident in Boddington Street, South Mackay on August 13.

Police have alleged the man intentionally accelerated and struck a dog on the street, causing unknown injuries (the dog was not found).

The man is then alleged to have done a u-turn before accelerating towards the injured dog and another dog, not making contact with either of them on the second attempt.

The protesters stationed themselves outside of the court ahead of the man's appearance, waving placards denouncing animal abuse.
