Putting Yeppoon on the US map

BRACING the cold, New York City winter and very homesick, Patric Lilleboe put Yeppoon on the spot on national American television.

The Yeppoon 23-year-old is in America where he has spent eight months holidaying, visiting family and studying at the New York Film Academy.

With his studies complete, and only a week until he returned home, Patric visited New York City with a friend and, clutching a fluoro yellow sign highlighting Yeppoon on an Australian map, pushed his way to the front to be seen on the Today show cameras to show his hometown to the big smoke.

"The whole time I was trying to get Yeppoon on there," he laughed.

"We were hoping someone was watching and goes, 'I know where that is!'"

Before that, Patric was pulled up by a tourist who saw Yeppoon on his luggage tag and told him he picked pineapples in Yeppoon more than 20 years ago.

Lining up in the cold outside the Rockefeller Plaza, he got to shake hands with weatherman and co-anchor Al Roker and had a photo taken with a mini cut-out of co-anchor Matt Lauer.

Patric said he missed the heat of Australia and was looking forward to seeing his family, going to the beach with them, wearing boardies, a singlet and pluggers.
