Queensland and NSW to hit temps in the 40s today

IT'S going to get hot around New South Wales and Queensland today, with a top temperature of 42 degrees celsius expected in parts of western Queensland and 41 degrees to hit Sydney. 

The forecasted maximum temp is only one degree short of 34 year record of 41.8C and a total fire ban is in place for the state.

Meanwhile, parts of Queensland are set to sizzle as well with Goondiwindi expected to reach a max of 42 degrees, Ipswich, Warwick and Dalby 38 degrees and Toowoomba and Gympie 34 degrees.

Coastal areas will be slightly cooler with the Sunshine Coast and Maryborough set to hit 31, Bundaberg 29 and Hervey Bay 28.
