THE Palmer United Party's new Queensland leader, who will take the party to the next election, will be announced next week.

PUP leader Clive Palmer said he also would announce additional candidates to run in seats across the state at the same time.

The fledging party lost its only representative in the Queensland Parliament on Wednesday night after Yeerongpilly MP Carl Judge quit.

Mr Judge, who defected to PUP from the LNP, said he planned to run as an independent in the inner Brisbane seat.

PUP state leader Alex Douglas, who also defected from the LNP, quit the party in August citing entrenched and widespread cronyism.
