Queenslanders to pay less for electricity

FINALLY some good news on electricity prices for Queenslanders -- you will pay slightly less.

It won't be enough to fund that beach house you've been thinking about though, the Queensland Competition Authority reckons you will save "around $7 or 0.5%" in the 2015-16 financial year.

That works out to about 58c per month.

Businesses can expect to save about $73 or 3.5% on their bill over the year.

The slight fall has been driven by the Queensland Government's decision to delay the de-regulation of electricity prices in south-east Queensland for another year.

The Australian Energy Regulator has also made changes to how much Energex and Ergon can collect from customers over the next five years.

As these "network costs" make up about 50% of most bills, that has also helped.

The price changes come into play from July 1.

For those wanting to hunt for more savings on their power bills, they can find the best deal at QCA's "price comparator" or from July 1, can head to the national regulator's Energy Made Easy site.
