THE Queensland racing industry continues to be a major driving force for regional economies across the state.
Sport and Racing Minister Steve Dickson told State Parliament on Thursday (Oct 31) the industry employed more than 30,000 people throughout the state.
"Our racing industry capital works program encompasses $110 million and we are slowly but surely implementing great product right throughout the state," he said.
"What we are doing is supporting country racing in a big way be it in Kumbia or St George.
"There are some fantastic outcomes occurring
"St George was an outstanding race day with their biggest figures in 75-years."
Mr Dickson urged all MPs to visit their local racetrack for Melbourne Cup celebrations next week.
"I hope you all go to a racetrack somewhere and promote the industry," he said.
"Queensland remains a great state with fantastic opportunities."
Earlier this year, Mr Dickson announced a $7 million upgrade to the track at Toowoomba.
Once completed it will be one of the best race track surfaces in Australia.
