Racing safety questioned after second jockey death in week

THE deaths of two young women jockeys, who fell from horses in separate races this week, have prompted questions over the safety of racing.

The ABC reported Caitlin Forrest, 19, died on Wednesday night at an Adelaide hospital after falling from her horse during a race in the South Australian town of Murray Bridge.

SA Racing has launched a review into the incident.

It is the second tragic death in two days and has shocked the racing world.

Young Rockhampton jockey Carly-Mae Pye died after a similar fall at Callaghan Park in the central Queensland city.

The Rockhampton racing community gathered on Tuesday, and interstate officials from the Australian Jockeys' Association met with locals after the tragedy.
