Rafter calls up tennis bad boy Bernard to take on Uzbeks

DAVIS Cup captain Pat Rafter has recalled prodigal son Bernard Tomic for Australia's must-win tie against Uzbekistan next month.

Tomic has been on the outer with the team since Rafter, with the support of Tennis Australia, suspended the 20-year-old from the first-round tie in Taiwan last month for a lack of professionalism.

Earlier this week the world No.45 said he was ready to try as hard as he could to help Australia return to the world group - featuring the top 16 countries - for the first time since 2007.

Rafter has also named Marinko Matosevic (51), Lleyton Hewitt (91)and Matthew Ebden (134) to take on the Uzbeks on clay in Namangan starting April 5.

"We have a team which is very motivated to go into an extremely tough away tie and try and win our way to a world group playoff," Rafter said.

"The boys are training hard. We are under no illusions as to the difficulty of the task ahead, but we want this badly."

The Uzbekistan team is spearheaded by world No.46 Denis Istomin and includes: Farrukh Dustov (216), Sarvar Ikramov (573) and Temur Ismailov (1501).
