Rain set to stay until Sunday

BUREAU of Meteorology forecaster Matt Bass has one word to describe Rockhampton's forecast for the week.

"The word is wet, unfortunately," he said.

"It does look like it will be quite wet leading up to Australia Day."

Mr Bass said on Australia Day, there could be early light rain and then scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.

"Those showers will hang around for much of the day," he said.

Mr Bass said Friday would be similar, while Saturday would be a mixture of weather, with some pretty decent rainfall.

He said there would still be a bit of rain around on Sunday, but it looked like it would clear up Sunday night.

Mr Bass said Rockhampton could expect cooler than average days this week, due to the cloud and rainfall.

He said the average normally was 32 and the maximum temperatures for the week were expected to be between 28 and 30.
