Rain washes out Rocky events

THE much needed rain across Rockhampton has washed out some holiday events.

Tonight’s Saloon Club speedway, set to be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds, was cancelled at 3pm today.

Organisers made the frustrating decision as gates were due to open.

Tuesday’s Summer Fun Raceday has also been cancelled.

A fun day of entertainment was planned for Callaghan Park, but organisers decided to call it off today.
But the highly anticipated Oxford Street Party will go ahead, rain, hail or shine.

Organiser Josh Jones today said he was quietly confident the rain will ease by Wednesday afternoon come time to party.

If it does rain, Josh said it won’t be too much of an issue.

“The main stage is covered so bands will still play,” he said.

“And as long as people are comfortable to party in the rain.”

Josh said according to forecasts showers are predicted for Wednesday morning but should clear by the afternoon.

“Fingers crossed,” he said.

Despite rumours of the Oxford Street Party tickets being sold out, Josh said there were still plenty available.

Tickets can be purchased today and tomorrow from the Oxford Hotel or the Pilbeam Theatre Box Office (call 4927 4111) for $35.
