Rally pumps millions into economy

THIS week more than 900 motorhomes will be parked at Rockhampton Showgrounds.

It's a national rally for the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia and will inject about $2 million into the local economy.

CMCA general manager Richard Barwick said the rallies were for people of all ages, from retirees to young families and semi-retired holidaymakers.

It's the first time the national rally has been held in Rockhampton and Mr Barwick said he hoped there would be more people visiting the region in the future.

This Saturday will be an open day at the Showgrounds, where members of the public can visit and experience the motorhome lifestyle.

Mr Barwick said people on the rally spent about $500 a week, predominantly on household goods, fuel and eating expenses.

He said they were also on a holiday so would spend a lot of time touring the region.
