Rape victim gets $48,000 compo

A VIOLENT Rockhampton rapist, who was jailed for 10 years, was yesterday ordered to pay $48,000 compensation to his victim.

The 16-year-old victim had told the court she started using drugs, dropped out of school and became an “angry person” after she was raped.

Michael Shane Kemp, 40, was found guilty by a jury in Rockhampton District Court in March 2008 of two counts of rape and one of performing an indecent act in public.

The offence occurred on October 22, 2002, when Kemp drove the girl, who he had just met, to an area in North Rockhampton and raped her twice.
