READER DISCUSSION: Rockhampton-Yeppoon Rd needs four lanes
MEMBER for Keppel Brittany Lauga said she was seeking funding to start planning for the duplication of Yeppoon-Rockhampton road into a full, four-lane corridor.
Ms Lauga took Minister for Main Roads Mark Bailey to inspect the road and the parts that need duplication when he visited the region on the weekend.
Chris Binder - I have this crazy idea that might work, how about drivers learn how to drive properly and stay in their own lanes and stop running into each other!?!?! It might just work...
Albert Zarb - Spot on!
Qld drivers are pretty ordinary.
Daniel Allison - Why don't we create an emergency lane for emergency vehicles so they don't get caught up in traffic. Too often emergency vehicles get stuck in congested traffic cause they have no where to go. If they make an emergency vehicle only lane they can get to their destination safer and faster and Maybe help more people
Heather Paterson - How about we educate people on how to get out the way of emergency service vehicles
Daniel Allison - You can try but you can't educate everyone
Heather Paterson - In attention is the key.....in Europe if you hear/see emergency vehicles you automatically move to the side leaving a clear run
Daniel Allison - Yes that's what your supposed to try and do here but not everyone has that idea and not everyone can move aside in some places
Heather Paterson - Of course there are places it can't be done
We heard a guy last week apologising on the 2way because he couldn't get out the way of the fire engine
Daniel Allison - Southside is terrible they have accesses made to get into to traffic but no lanes for the emergency vehicle to move into so they spend 5- 10 minutes trying to get through the traffic and over nth side
Kase Louise - Emu park road needs more attention then yeppoon road. That has double lanes majority of the way, safe ways to overtake the amount of near misses on emu park road, is unreal because everyone's in such a hurry and there's only one double laned area to over take safe.
Tony Hales - Spot on. Emu Park Rd is in desperate need of more overtaking lanes.
Kerry Smith - People need to learn how to drive safely on that road first. Emu Park - Rockhampton needs it more
Tiara Dowdle - How about you do something for Emu park road? It so dangerous with bearly anywhere to overtake safely.
Dan Boelens - It should be two lanes both way all the way from Rocky to Yeppoon.
Tara Philippi - Most accidents on that road actually happen on the double lanes
