READER'S VIEW: Time to take a stand against Schoolies

I AM a sufferer of mental illness, and spend most of my spare time helping others that suffer to try and make their lives more comfortable and easier.

When I hear that word Schoolies, my blood boils because I worry about how many kids are going to finish their lives as such with death, mental scars, unplanned pregnancies and/or a criminal record.

The kids are going to be tempted with the high of the drug peddlers and the friends who use peer pressure to get what they want and we all know what that is.

There should be a political interception to stop this ridiculous carry on.

I know that working with these kids that they are not mentally prepared for a week-long alcohol/drug-fuelled event.

The kids that don't make it through safely will have their mum or dad taking them to mental health saying, "I can't understand because they are such sensible kids."

Please, Rockhampton friends, let's make a stand against Schoolies. Save our children.
