Reggae sensation Laza Morgan in town tomorrow night

ROCKHAMPTON'S Flamingo's On Quay has recently hosted two international R&B sensations, Iyaz and Mario, but tomorrow night will see Laza Morgan spice up the stage with some reggae flavours.

The international Jamaican/American reggae and R&B sensation will give audiences an intimate and up close performance in his first tour to Australia, adding the Rockhampton show to his tour because of popular demand.

Laza has been blazing hot on the reggae scene since 2011.

His raspy, resonating voice and rhythmic DJ style flows are turning heads throughout the reggae arena, with industry insiders and fans alike hailing him as the new face of crossover reggae.

Tour promoter Frank Willis said they were so excited to bring Laza to Rockhampton for the very first time.

"Rockhampton seems to miss out on reggae/urban style events. (He's) an absolute delight to work with. He's a simple passionate guy that loves performing and always gives his fans a memorable show."

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Laza was literally raised in a musical cradle.

He was heavily influenced by the reggae music of his household and the records made by his father, Jamaican music legend and hit-maker Denroy Morgan, who stormed his way onto American radio in the early 1980s with his club anthem, I'll Do Anything for You.

With his family's strong Jamaican roots and frequent trips to Kingston and St Thomas as inspiration, it didn't take long for Laza to completely embrace the world of reggae.

His experiences in Springfield and Brooklyn influenced him heavily too, as he began incorporating hip-hop, R&B and pop into his musical lexicon.

After graduating from high school, Laza and two of his siblings formed the hip-hop/reggae group LMS and toured the world supporting Morgan Heritage, the internationally recognised roots reggae band founded by his father and several of his other brothers and sisters.

And 2014 proved to be the culmination of many years of hard work that Laza has put into his craft.

After signing with Elektra records in February, Laza was featured on British pop sensation Alexandra Burke's hit single Start Without You which topped the UK and European singles charts in September.

He was also featured on Flo Rida's hit single 21 from the album The Only One.

His forthcoming Elektra debut has already yielded a single, This Girl that was featured in Disney's feature film Step Up 3D and its smash soundtrack.

Laza's throwback second single, One by One, is a hypnotic love song featuring dancehall idol Mavado and is sure to set dance floors and radio airwaves ablaze this summer.

"The song represents a fresh voice bringing back the message of love to reggae," Laza said.
