WEST MORETON: No new coronavirus cases

UPDATE 4.30PM FRIDAY, MARCH 27

QUEENSLAND Health has advised that no new cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed today, leaving the region's total at 17.

State-wide, 65 new cases were found, bringing the overall total for Queensland to 555 cases since COVID-19 was first identified.

Concerns are mounting over tomorrow's local government elections, with a surgeon blasting the decision to continue ahead with polling as "absolutely ludicrous" and predicting a big spike in COVID-19 cases in a fortnight as a result.

A new system was launched to help track the number of confirmed cases, deaths and recoveries nationally and by state, which is updated hourly.

RACQ has predicted that the current health crisis will see fuel prices drop below $1, as the average price for unleaded in Ipswich today was $1.29.

5PM THURSDAY, MARCH 26

Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus have risen to 17 today for West Moreton, the region that covers Ipswich.

The two new cases are inluded in a state total of 493, 50 instances higher than yesterday's 443.

It was announced that all schools will be 'pupil free' as of next week, but parents who are working will still be able to take their child to school.

Experts have given tips on how you can make the transition to home schooling as smooth as possible.

It was also revealed how an industry is thriving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic - and has jobs available across Southeast Queensland.

8PM WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25

Queensland Health has confirmed two more cases of COVID-19 in the West Moreton region bringing the region's total to 15.

Queensland has 46 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) raising the state total to 443.

A second Queenslander has passed away from coronavirus (COVID-19).

A Queensland Health spokesperson confirmed the 68 year old man on the Darling Downs had a serious underlying medical condition before contracting the virus

"Queensland Health offers it's sincere condolences to his family," the spokesperson said.

"The man's family remain in isolation as close contacts."

It's the second death from COVID-19 in Queensland after a 77 year old Sunshine Coast woman with an underlying medical condition passed away in Sydney

7PM TUESDAY, MARCH 24

Queensland Health has confirmed three more cases of COVID-19 in the West Moreton region bringing the region's total to 13.

Queensland has 78 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) raising the state total to 397.

Contact tracing is underway for the 78 new cases. Queensland Health will notify the community if any other public health alerts are required.

The majority of cases are from patients who have travelled overseas, or have had direct contact with a confirmed case who had travelled overseas.

The number of confirmed cases we see each day is expected to vary as the department continues to respond to the COVID-19 situation across the state.

5PM MONDAY, MARCH 23

Two more cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed today for West Moreton, bringing the region's total up to 10.

Overall, another 60 cases have been confirmed across Queensland, 33 males and 27 females, bringing the states total to 319 since COVID-19 began spreading.

Queensland Health said contact tracing was underway and further public health alerts would be released if required.

It also said majority of the cases are from patients who have travelled overseas, or have had direct contact with a confirmed case who has travelled overseas.

Queensland Health said it is urging anyone who has been overseas in the last 14 days and has a fever or any respiratory sympstoms to see a doctor immediately. 

It comes after multiple businesses were forced to close their door for up to six months as part of a national shut down in an attempt to limit the spreading of COVID-19.
